Amongst several positions Arsenal boss – Arsene Wenger will be looking to strengthen in his squad this summer is the forward position and to this have seen the highest number of players being linked with a move to Arsenal in a bid to fill in the much needed quality up front for the Gunners.
Arsenal are thought to be lining up a €21 million move for Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne.
There has been a lot of speculation surrounding the future of the young Italian international following a successful season with the Partenopei which saw him score twice in a Coppa Italia final win over Fiorentina.
According to sources, Wenger could be prepared to pay upwards of €20 million for Insigne.
It is reported that Arsenal scouts have been watching the youngster throughout the season and will be looking on with a keen interest as he joins Italy in Brazil for the World Cup.
The 23-year-old played 36 times in Serie A for Napoli this season, scoring three times and assisting a further six goals for his side as they finished in third place.
Although the agent of the Napoli starlet admits it is an “honour” to see the Italy international linked with a move to Arsenal but cannot see the Serie A side parting with the forward this summer.
However a growing number of reports have suggested that the Arsenal Manager will look to prise Insigne away from the Stadio San Paolo following the World Cup, where the forward is expected to have a key role to play in Cesare Prandelli’s side.
But when quizzed on the interest emanating from north London, Insigne’s agent Antonio Ottaiano was skeptical, although admitted admiration from Wenger was much appreciated.
“We take in to account the praising reports that Wenger has given about the player,” Ottaiano said to Tutto Mercato’s website.
“We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list.
“However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named ‘Napoli’.
“The (Naples) club consider him without a shadow of a doubt as one of their cardinal players for their ambitious project.
“Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”
Arsenal are in search for a top class striker to further put the “icing on the cake” to an “improved” lone forward Olivier Giroud and thus have been linked with a huge amount of players this summer. But amongst the lot linked, do you fancy Insigne in an Arsenal shirt bringing in the much expected goals to push further our quest for major trophies next season?
