The summer transfer window is officially yet to be open and Arsenal and Manchester Uniteds’s have been handed boost in the efforts to sign Real Madrid’s Germany star Sami Khedira after it emerged the Champions League winners have deemed him surplus to requirements.
The future of the German is seriously in doubt with Real looking at the sights of Juventus pair Arturo Vidal and Paul Pogba, as well as Ramires with a bid to snap up any of the trio should the opportunity come by.
Spanish outlet El Confidencial claims that Carlo Ancelotti does not intend on keeping the former Stuttgart man past this summer, and wants to cash in as quickly as possible in order to chase other targets.
The report also states that planned contract negotiations with the robust midfielder have been suspended, opening the way for a hasty exit to Old Trafford or North London. With the former set to launch a bid of around £20million in order to clinch Khedira’s services.
New United boss Louis Van Gaal who is on international duty with the Dutch national team in Brazil for the World Cup is desperate to inject his side with quality and experience, and believes Khedira is the man to help United back to the top of the Premier League table.
Arsenal however are also keeping a close eye on the German, who ticks all the boxes Arsene Wenger is looking for in the centre of the park.
Khedira’s situation at Real have been monitored by Wenger in recent weeks but interest in landing the 6′ 2″ will increase following the recent development.
Wenger had been on the look-out for a defensive midfielder and had previously set his sight on Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender as his first choice option to fill that position with Brazil’s Gustavo as a second choice option while Khedira was his third option.
But this news can see Wenger abandon plans for his first two options and move in for the third.
Although the player wont come at an easy cost as Real boss is expecting to earn good money off this deal but Wenger being an avid admirer of the German, is likely to force a deal through to see the German make the switch to the Emirates with a deal soon be on the cards.
Is Khedira the solution to Arsenals’ defensive midfield problems or should Wenger abandon this target and move for other targets?
