Earlier reports this week according to the Daily Mail had revealed Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen is ready to quit the Emirates Stadium for a move to Manchester United. The Belgium international has told close pals that he wants to complete a controversial switch to Old Trafford after the World Cup.
Now Vermaelen has slammed speculation that he could be about to leave Arsenal for Manchester United with the Gunner’s skipper strenuously denied the claims according to the Express.
He told Sky Sports: “I know there has been a lot of talk and a lot of rumours but the only thing I can say is that it’s not true.
“Everybody understands my situation at Arsenal and that I have one year left.
“I understand that people are going to talk but I am here in Brazil and I am enjoying my time and I’m focused on what I am doing.”
And while Vermaelen doesn’t deny he has held talks with Arsenal, he says that only Arsene Wenger can decide his future.
He added: “We talk a lot when I am at Arsenal but it’s not what I am going to discuss here.
“It is something you are going to have to ask him.”
Although the rumours going around about Vermaelen exiting the Emirates this summer have gathered so much media speculations, but with the player himself rebuffing such claims, one would help but think that these rumours could as well be exactly what they are “Rumours”.
