Arsene Wenger has reportedly joined the race for the highly-rated Monaco defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia
This is according to reports in France who claim the Gunners have joined Inter Milan and Manchester City for Monaco defensive midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia.
The 22-year old joined Monaco from Sevilla back in 2013 and has since burst onto the main scene, standing out in a commanding performance vs Arsenal in the Champions League.
Arsenal are said to have been monitoring the progress of the midfielder, but where placed on red alert after it was understood Inter have placed an offer of £18.5-million which falls short of the £25-million tag the Ligue 1 outfit have slapped on their star midfielder.
Wenger is believed to be in the market for another defensive midfielder who can distribute well even though Frances Coquelin picked up excellent form towards the tail end of the season.
Morgan Schneiderlin is Arsenal’s preferred target, but the Saint’s midfielder is said to favour a move up north to Manchester United.
Kondogbia has appeared 49 times for Monaco since his arrival, scoring twice.
Wenger has apparently monitored the development of the French international since his youth days at Lens, and is reportedly set to swoop in for the player this summer to provide support and competition for Coquelin ahead of a major title charge next season.
