“Thank you for this great award. It means a lot to me especially because it was voted for by the fans. I’m also very proud that I can accept this prize,” Ozil told Deutsche Welle.
“Many people don’t have the opportunity to enjoy life. Our goal is simply to create a bit of a better future for them. That is our aim.”
“People that are close to me know that I love to help and spend time with Children. I spoke to my team and for example, we would also like to use the prize money to help burn victims in Africa.”
Previous winners of the award include USA national coach, Jürgen Klinsmann, and former German international, Thomas Hitzlsperger.
Ozil was also awarded the Laureus Sport for Good Award in December, after the organisation recognised the World Cup winner’s decision to donate his bonus to twenty three Brazilian children in need of life-saving surgery.
