Arsenal have been handed a final blow in their pursuit of one of Europe’s most deadly finishers if reports emerging from Italy are to be believed.
Exclusive report on Italian website Calciomercatoweb claim Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Gonzalo Higuain on a five-year-deal, with the Red Devils already agreed personal terms with the striker.
CMW also say United have offered Higuain a deal worth £5m-a-year to lure him to Old Trafford.
However, negotiations with Napoli are still being ironed-out after the Serie A side turned down an initial bid of around £27m for the front-man.
The Naples club are believed to be holding out for a figure closer to the £35m mark before finalising the deal.
This report will come as a massive blow to Arsenal who had also been linked with the former Real Madrid man.
It was earlier reported by popular Spanish media outlet Fichajes.net, that the Gunners have tabled a bid for the 27-year-old Argentine.
Higuain has been a long time target of Wenger, with the Frenchman reportedly failing on several occasions to land his signature.
