Manchester United winger Angel Di Maria has emerged as a surprise summer transfer target for Arsenal.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is known to be a huge admirer of the Argentine International and had made two unsuccessful attempts to sign him in the past.

Di Maria joined Manchester United from Real Madrid last season for a club record fee of £59.7million but endured a difficult first term at Old Trafford with manager Louis van Gaal rotating him in and out of the squad.

Arsenal signed Danny Welbeck from United last season but the Old Trafford outfit might be reluctant to let Di Maria follow suit even if the Gunners were to match their valuation of the player.

Factors that may hinder the deal:

Arsenal may now be financially strong to compete in the transfer market but matching United’s £59.7 million might be a little too much for the Gunners.

Di Maria’s £280,000-a-week wage might also be beyond the Gunners pay structure.

Danny Welbeck accounted for United’s exit from the FA Cup last season and not many United supporters would want to see another “former Red Devil” punish them in the colours of an arch rival.

Nevertheless, report from The Mail insists that, if 27-year-old is available this summer, the Gunners would be interested ‘provided a deal fits into their financial framework’.

Wenger remains keen on landing another winger this summer with Mesut Ozil set to be handed the number 10 role next season and Di Maria perfectly fits the bill.

Other sides rumored to be interested in landing Di Maria include Bayern Munich and PSG
