Arsenal are believed to have finally made an offer to sign French striker Karim Benzema from Real Madrid, according to the Metro
The forward has remained top priority on Arsene Wenger’s transfer wish-list this summer and the Gunners manager has never hidden his admiration for his compatriot.
Speculations on the deal have been rife in recent weeks and although no specific sum have been mentioned, there are indications that Arsenal will not meet Madrid’s previous £42million valuation of the striker as the Spanish giants would be willing to let him go for a cut price.
Benzema’s relevance to the Los Blancos seem to be fading as new manager Rafael Benitez hinted he may be drafting Cristiano Ronaldo as his point-man in his new 4-2-3-1 formation with Benzema most likely to operate from the flanks (if he gets to start) alongside Gareth Bale.
This will likely unsettle the France International who flourished as the main center forward and enjoyed regular playing time under former manager Carlo Ancelotti.
Another puzzle for Benzema could be the possible arrival of either Sergio Kun Aguero or Alvaro Morata to the Bernabeu next season.
Aguero has been a dream target for Madrid President Florentino Lopez while Benitez is said to be a huge admirer of Morata and if any of these deals sail through, it could signal the end for Benzema at Madrid.
Aware of these circumstances, Arsenal have reportedly submitted a bid which Madrid may find difficult to reject and the Gunners will be hoping to get a favorable response before making their next move.
Benzema is also a target for Manchester United, Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain with pundits suggesting that the temptation of returning home could make the Ligue 1 champions a serious threat to Arsenal’s ambition.
There have been speculations Benzema might begin Medicals at Arsenal next week, according to popular Sport journalist Arsenal are close to signing of the season, he also added the deal is as good as done.
