Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck is set to miss the club’s pre-season Barclays Asia Trophy tour in Singapore today through a setback from the knee injury he picked up in the final weeks of last season.
His participation in the opening game of the new season against West Ham is now in doubt.
According to Wenger on the club’s website;
Welbeck’s injury was at the start very minor. It’s bone bruising, but it took much longer to settle than we expected.
“I expect him to play a part in the Emirates Cup at the end of the month. I also expect him to develop as a central striker and a wide player.
“He played mostly wide last season, but if he adds goals as well he can be very effective as a central striker as well.”
Wenger has to sign more players to assist olivier Giroud and Theo Wallcot up front; in my opinion we finished 3rd last season due to injury worries and no replacements for key players. We can only hope Karim Benzema’s move Pull through.
