24-year-old Aaron Ramsey has expressed his delight with the warm reception the people of Singapore have given to them since their arrival. Ramsey also revealed it would be great if Wales qualify for their first-ever European Championship.
“It’s a fantastic achievement for the players and the staff,” he said. “For a small country like us it’s not an easy thing, and to be the first team to do that in our history [would be] a great achievement for us.
“We’re just really proud that we’re now 10th in the world. There’s still a few games left that we need to win to secure our qualification but we have a great group at the moment who are very hard to break down and have a good team spirit. We’re looking forward to our next games and to qualify for France.”
Ramsey has been impressed with the standard of the competition so far, and he is looking forward to Saturday’s Barclays Asia Trophy final against Everton.
“It’s been a good surprise and the support that we’ve had over here has been quite overwhelming,” he said. “We’ve just been working hard and looking forward to playing against Everton on Saturday.
“It’s a bit tough in these conditions, very hot and humid, so that takes its toll but the boys have done really well so far. We’re only going to get stronger now as the pre-season goes on and I’m sure we’ll be ready for the beginning of the season.”
