Arsenal are on the lookout for world class stars this summer, but will also be looking to lose a few players as well, to free up space and funds going into the transfer window.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has practically confirmed a deal ahead of the Emirates Cup this weekend.
Wojciech Szczesny’s season-long loan switch to Serie A giants AS Roma is as good as done, according to Wenger.
The boss revealed this while talking to the press ahead of the annual Emirates Cup scheduled for this weekend.
Szczesny who lost his place in the Arsenal starting line-up to David Ospina last season, will join the Serie A outfit this season, with Wenger revealing he will not be involved in the competition this weekend as he may exit the club any moment.
‘Szczesny will not be involved [this weekend] because he might move to Roma. I hope I can give 90 minutes to every player,’ he said.
‘He could go. We are pretty much done, it’s down to paperwork.
‘Szcsesny is a top-class goalkeeper and we have three who are all top. For one of the keepers, if he can play somewhere it is good.’
Wenger added: ‘I believe he will have a future at Arsenal because I rate him highly. I don’t want the opportunity he had at a young age to be wasted.’
Szczesny found himself further behind Arsenal’s goalkeeping pecking order with the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea this summer, and with Ospina publicly expressing his desire to stay and fight back his place from new signing Cech, it is only reasonable for the 25-year-old to seek playing time elsewhere in the interim.
