Arsenal’s hope of signing a proven striker has been given a boost after Gonzalo Higuain rejected Napoli’s latest contract offer according to the metro.
Arsenal fans’ dream of signing Karim Benzema from Real Madrid has been dismissed by the boss, as Wenger has moved to disregard every speculation that the striker is on his way to the Emirates.
According to reports, Wenger in his press conference following yesterday’s community shield win against League winners Chelsea, the Chief said he didn’t know where rumours keep surfacing from of a deal for Karim Benzema.
According to the Metro, says Arsenal have now shifted their attention in signing Argentine international Higuain.
The proven striker is believed to be looking to leave the club after two years in Italy in which he’s scored 53 goals in 102 games.
The 27-year-old agent/brother has hinted Higuain was ready to leave Italy by confirming the star has refused to pen a new deal at the club.
‘We had a meeting with the President [Aurelio De Laurentiis] in Venice 10 days ago,’ said Nicolas Higuain.
‘We talked about everything. He offered a one-year contract extension, however, in my opinion – and in our opinion – we’ll continue with the original contract, expiring in 2018.
‘I don’t think we’ll accept the president’s offer, because the contract isn’t that different to the one we signed before, so for us it’s not a real offer.’
