Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push next season and the boss is aware of the need to bring in only the best in the summer to achieve his target.
News emerging from Portugal claim Arsenal have signed 15-year-old Manchester United target Joao Virginia from Benfica.
The young Portuguese goalkeeper was reportedly set to sign for Premier League rivals Manchester United after undergoing a trial at Old Trafford, but rejected a move to Manchester for north London.
The Gunners look to have gotten one over their rivals, with the young goalkeeper reported to have signed a four-year-deal at Arsenal.
Joao will go straight into the Arsenal U18 side, but won’t be able to sign a professional contract till he turns 17.
The disappointment leaves Red Devil’s boss Louis van Gaal in search of a goal keeper for the future, despite signing free agent Sergio Romero recently.
Joao Virginia’s path to the first team is very steep with Josh Vickers, Matt Macey, Dejan iliev, Emiliano Martinez, Wojeich Szczecsny , David Ospina and Petr Cech all ahead of him.
With Szczecsny out on loan to AS Roma, Joao Virginia still has two top keepers in Ospina and Cech to learn from.
