Karim Benzema is a major target for Arsenal this summer, and reports say the Gunners are closing in on a deal for the World class striker, according to the Metro.
Arsene Wenger is believed to want to make him the top earner at Arsenal, with a reported £45million bid being prepared to tempt Real Madrid to part with the services of their No.9; bettering the club’s record transfer fee of £42.5m paid for Mesut Ozil in 2013.
The clinical finisher will also be the highest paid player going home with over £150,000-a-week, more that what Alexis Sánchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil currently earns.
The Gunners were previously interested in Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but with Aubameyang refusing to leave Borussia Dortmund and Lacazette being told he cannot leave Lyon this summer, all attentions has now been shifted to Karim Benzema.
With several reports claiming Benzema is going to be dropped in favour of a Gareth Bale – Cristiano Ronaldo partnership upfront for Madrid this new season, it remains to be seen whether Madrid would agree to cash in on the striker who has scored 87 goals in 188 appearances for the capital club.
