Arsenal are set to make a surprising move for Benedickt Howedes after he initially snubbed them in the summer to sign a new contract with Schalke.
The German international had a buyout clause of £12 million in his contract and Arsenal were very willing to activate it, but he refused saying “My Job is not done here yet. And, especially after last season, I told myself I do not want to leave this way. I am a key player of this club”.
But with the gunners needing defensive recruitments, as pointed out by club legend, Emmanuel Petit, the gunners are back in for him, and his words in the summer would serve as an encouragement “Milan and Arsenal have really been keen on my services…. Still I have not opted against them, I have decided in favour of FC Schalke 04”
With Schalke lying 5th in the Bundesliga, and Arsenal second on goal difference in the Premier League with a realistic title challenge, he might be swayed this time towards the Premier League outfit.
It will take quite a lot to convince Schalke to part with their prized asset.
