The highway from Barcelona’s La Masia academy to Arsenal that has been used ever so frequently is about to be used again, and this time its Barcelona second team captain Alex Grimaldo.
Grimaldo who is primarily a left back became Barcelona B youngest ever player when he made his debut aged 15 and has gone on to become the captain, also making an appearance for the first team in the Catalan cup. But his path to the first team is obstructed by Jordi Alba prompting him to consider new options.
Arsenal has been a regular destination for La Masia products, with Fran Merida, Ignasi Miquel, Julio Plegzuelo, Jon Toral and notably Hector Bellerin and Cesc Fabregas all making the switch from La Masia to the Emirates. It would be no surprise to see Grimaldo join the long line.
Arsenal have Nacho Monreal who turns 30 soon and Gibbs as their only options at left back, they will be looking to prepare for the future, and the 20 year old Spanish U21 international fits the bill.
