Former Arsenal first choice goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is wanted back at the Emirates after his loan spell with Italian side AS Roma at the end of the season, according to Gunners German defender Per Mertesacker.
The Polish goalkeeper went out on loan after dropping down the pecking order since the arrival of Petr Cech from Chelsea. The Polish international lost his first choice position to Colombian David Ospina after series of errors and unconvincing performances.
Szczesny has kept two clean sheets in nine appearances for AS Roma so far this season and Mertesacker believe the goalkeeper is vital and would return to fight for his place in the Gunners team.
David Ospina committed a serious howler in the UEFA Champions league against Greek side Olympiacos which resulted to a goal after dropping a corner to the part on the Olympiacos player to slot into an empty net.
Ospina has been out injured and Szczesny could fancy his chances to displace him. Petr Cech had not been error free too; he mistimed a cross to allow West ham’s kouyate to nod into an empty net. It would be interesting to see how the tussle for first choice in the gunners goal pans out next season
