Arsene Wenger is looking to bring in a new defensive midfielder to replace the injured Francis Coquelin who is side-lined till March next year.
The French man has been pivotal to Arsenals fantastic start to the season with commanding display in front of the midfield; standing like a shield. The Gunners would face a hard time without Coquelin who has helped Santi Carzola to play further in the Arsenal attack.
Bender is the captain of Bayern Leverkusen and won’t be an easy acquisition for the Gunners; he is contracted to the German side till 2019 and would make a fantastic addition to Arsenal.
However, the Gunners have been handed a boost to finally sign him in January.
‘Bayer Leverkusen can’t be as arrogant to say that we are creating world stars and they will retire here,’ said chairman Michael Schade.
‘If we are able to create a world star or top player, then one day this player wants to play for one of the top [clubs in the world], of course.’
