FC Porto midfielder Ruben Neves has talked up his future claiming he wants to remain at the Estadio do Dragao.
The midfielder dealt a massive blow to Arsenal and Chelsea who have been monitoring him for quite sometime.
The midfielder is a key member of the club’s first team and currently holds the record of the youngest captain in the Champions league history.
Arsenal were reportedly preparing a £22million bid for the midfielder while Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in signing the midfielder when the transfer window opens in January.
However, Porto chief Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa says the midfielder will not be sold and the club will not entertain any bid for the player.
“I hope that he stays for many years at FC Porto,” da Costa said. “Ruben has a contract until 2019 and not until 2017, as I have sometimes seen written, and we would like to keep him at the club, as a kind of Joao Pinto — he was a symbol of the club’s progress for generations.
“I never want him to leave FC Porto.”
The midfielder responded to the words of his chairman and claims he is happy in Portugal and is fully focused on the Job at Porto.
‘To hear the president say that he wants to make me a symbol of the club? It’s fantastic. This made me feel very proud,’ Neves told Porto’s club magazine.
‘I am under contract until June 2019 and, at the moment, I am only thinking about the club achieving its goals.’
