Arsenal are reportedly on the lookout for top quality players ahead of the January transfer window.
The Gunners have sent former player Luis Boa Morte on scouting mission to watch Porto’s Ruben Neves. Boa Morte was in attendance as Porto defeated Uniao da Madeira 4-0, specifically to watch 18 years old midfielder, as per the report.
Arsene Wenger’s need for a central midfielder has never been greater, with injuries to Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Francis Coquelin, Jack Wilshere and Alexis Sanchez all out injured. With the current squad looking very thin due to injuries tom many key players, Arsene Wenger would be looking to bolster his options in January, and the young Portuguese seems to be one of his prime targets.
Neves can be described as a player that could be deployed as a holding midfielder or play further up the pitch, and he possesses excellent vision and passing skill.
Neves hold the record for the youngest Portuguese player to ever play in the UEFA champions’ league at 17 years 5months and eight days; and made history again when he captained Porto against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA champions’ league as the youngest captain in the competition’s history.
The teenager has been attracting interest from big clubs around Europe since making his debut for Portugal this year, so Wenger should be ready to out-bid other teams that are interested in the players signature who stated that he doesn’t see his immediate future outside Porto.
