Reports suggest that Arsenal have been sending scouts to watch Napoli defensive midfielder Jorginho, according to the player’s agent Joao Santos. The Gunners are shot of defensive cover since Francis Coquelin picked up a knee ligament injury that would keep him out of action till next year.
Aaron Ramsey is now deputising as the defensive midfield option for Arsenal due to injury to Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini nearing the end of his playing career. The gunners have now identified SS Napoli defensive midfielder Jorginho as the ideal defensive midfield cover they need.
23 year old Jorginho has been an integral member of the Napoli set up under new coach Maurizio Sarri’s side surge for the top of Serie A table, the Naples club are currently seating in 3rd position in the Serie A table, 4 points behind current leaders Inter Milan while being tied on the same points with second place Fiorentina on 32 points after drawing 0-0 with AS Roma at the weekend.
Jorginho’s playing style is similar to that of Barcelona’s Sergio Bousquet; he possesses great ball control and retention ability and a good position sense as he can sit in the defensive midfield position and boss play and when needed, he burst forward with purpose and intent.
Arsenal may have to wait till the summer to swoop for the player as it would be very difficult for Maurizio Sarri to sanction a sale in the mid-season for a player that has been pivotal in Napoli’s season so far
