Arsenal are set to sign a defensive midfielder in January and will target a trio of quality midfielders across Europe, according to reports.
According to the Metro via the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are stepping up plans to sign a midfielder and will target one of Ruben Neves, William Carvalho or Grzegorz Krychowiak in January.
The Gunners have lost Francis Coquelin to a long term injury and the Gunners manager is keen to strengthen his side after they were drawn up to face Barcelona in the Uefa Champions league round of 16 tie.
According to Squawka via O Jogo, the Gunners have been monitoring FC Porto midfielder Ruben Neves and recently sent scout Luis Boa Morte to watch the midfielder in action. The scout was reportedly impressed with the midfielder’s performance and Arsenal could now follow up their interest with an official bid.
Another player also being considered by Wenger is William Carvalho who has been on the Gunners radar for a long time. The midfielder who claims to be a fan of the Gunners is valued at about £20million and Wenger could move for the Portuguese defensive midfielder as he tries to improve his team ahead of the game against Barcelona in February.
Krychowiak who is having a good season in the La liga is also under consideration. The player ruled out a move to England but that hasn’t deterred the Gunners manager and the French man could launch a bid for the Sevilla midfielder when the winter transfer window opens in January.
