Arsenal look set to step up their chase for a defensive midfield cover in the January transfer window, according to reports.
The Gunners are short of option in the midfield position as Francis Coquelin; who is the preferred defensive midfield cover for Arsenal is out injured, while Santi Carzola, Tomas Rosicky, Mikel Arteta and Jack Wilshere are all out of the reckoning due to injuries.
Arsenal are currently second in the Premier League table and would look to maintain the charge for the Premier League title by strengthening the already weaken Midfield area of the squad. The Gunners are tracking four of the best defensive midfield players around, Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho, Southampton’s Victor Wanyama, Sevilla’s Grzegorz Krychowiak and FC Porto’s Ruben Neves.
The above mentioned defensive midfielders have been on the Gunners radars and have attempted to bring at least one to the Emirates with no success. It is reported that Arsenal would attempt to bring at least one in the January transfer window. Southampton midfielder; Victor Wanyama looks the likeliest acquisition as he already has premier league experience and would gladly move to Arsenal after attempting to offer transfer request last summer.
Ruben Neves has stated that he intend to stay at Porto for the foreseeable future and so it would be hard getting the player to move to England while the asking price for Carvalho may put him off Arsenal radar. Grzegorz is an integral member of the Sevilla set up and wont be allowed to leave during mid season.
