Arsenal are set to lose Nacho Monreal to Athletic Bilbao when the winter transfer window opens in January, according to reports.
Athletic Bilbao have been linked with a move to sign Monreal since last January but it seems the La Liga club are now set to get their man when the transfer window open in January.
According to the Metro via Fichajes, Arsene Wenger has given his blessings on a move and the defender is now set to return to La liga in January.
The report claims the Gunners manager believes replacing Monreal will not be difficult and would be ready to accept a suitable offer for the 29 year old.
Monreal endured a shaky start to his Arsenal career as the defender took time to adapt to life in London but the Spaniard has become a regular since the beginning of the current campaign and has been one of the best performers for Arsenal this season.
His move to Athletic Bilbao will be shocking to fans who are desperate for the club to win their first Barclays premier league title since 2005 and keeping their first xi which includes Monreal will be crucial.
Athletic Bilbao have a transfer policy that makes them unable to sign players outside the Basque region and the club remians keen on Monreal because he is from Pamplona, a city in the Basque region of Spain.
Moreal has featured in all of the Gunners Premier league games this season which shows how important the left-back is to Arsene Wenger
