Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push this season and the boss is aware of
the need to bring in only the best to achieve his target.
Chelsea and Arsenal have been dealt a huge blow in the race to sign Ruben Neves after the player ruled out a move out of FC Porto, according to Standard sport.
The Blues have been watching the player for quite sometime and was reportedly interested in signing the centre midfielder after his performances against them in their 2-1 defeat in the hands of the Portuguese club at the Estadio De Dragao in September.
Arsenal were also credited with an interest in signing the 19 year old after sending scouts to watch the midfielder on several occasions and it was claimed that the North London club were preparing a £22m bid for the midfielder in January.
However both clubs are set to lose out on the Portuguese international after the player revealed he will not be leaving FC Porto in January until he claims silverware with the club where he made his name.
According to Standard sport, the player said:
“Yes, it’s possible that I will end my career at FC Porto,” Neves said.
“I’m happy at the club and I’m focused on improving every day to reach my goals, which include winning titles with FC Porto, my favourite club.”
“When you come from younger teams, and you reach the main squad, there are always difficulties you have to deal with, like the intensity, the maturity, and the experience of the players.
“But I was welcomed by the group and I had some players helping me immensely, like Ricardo Pereira, who is a close friend of mine, and Helton, who is a reference”.
