Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
According to Portuguese sports newspaper O Jogo, they claim Arsenal are keen on signing a defensive midfielder in January and they suggest Arsenal primary target is Porto’s Danilo Pereira.
It’s no longer news that the Gunners are currently without some key players due to injury with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Mikel Arteta, and first-choice midfield pairing Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla.
Danilo only joined Porto in the summer, from Maritimo, but at 24 would be a great investment for Arsenal.
The midfielder has established himself as a key player at Porto this season having spent two seasons at Maritimo, and before that a campaign at Roda JC.
In an interview with O jogo, Boa Morte revealed ‘I went to Madeira, but not to watch Neves. He’s an 8, not a 6,’
He also revealed that Pereiera has been a long term target
“I’ve watched Danilo since he was 15/16 years at Benfica. His development has been impressive, but I wasn’t surprised by it.’
‘Danilo has quality for a different challenge, he just need to be given the opportunity. Things are already easy for him at FCP.”
