Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Arsenal have received a massive boost in their attempts to sign FC Porto’s midfielder Ganielli Imbula, according to his agent via the Daily express.
The midfielder has been linked with a move to Arsenal since last season and reports surfaced that the Gunners could turn their attentions to him as they searched for a replacement and cover for the injured Coquelin.
The Gunners will now be boosted by news coming out from Portugal claiming the Portuguese club are now prepared to sell the 23 year old.
The player’s agent, Willy Ndangi, has increased the speculation about the midfielder’s future claiming he expects him to leave the Estadio de Dragao this winter transfer window.
“We know that Porto want to sell Giannelli,” Ndangi said. “At the moment we haven’t had any contact with other clubs, but we could talk to some sides starting from Monday.”
Imbulla joined Porto from marseille last summer for 15 million pounds and has started just 8 league games for Porto this season.
However, the Gunners could snub the opportunity to sign the midfielder after it has been revealed that the North London club are close to signing FC Basel’s defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny.
Southampton has also been linked with a move to sign the former Marseille star.
