Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Arsenal receive a major boost in their attempts to keep Matthieu Debuchy beyond the January transfer window, according to reports.
Roma have been linked with a move to sign the French defender as they seek a replacement for Douglas Maicon.
However, with a host of clubs in for the defender’s signature and the reluctance of Arsenal to lose the defender unless they have a replacement already lined up, Roma has now drawn up a list of alternative targets should they miss out on the Gunners right back, as per the Daily Express.
According to the publication via Gazetta Dello Sport, Roma could turn their attention to Genoa’s Armanda Izzo.
According to the report, Debuchy remains Roma’s top priority but the Gunners are only willing to sell the 30 year old and a fee of £8.8m has been placed on his head.
Debuchy lost his place in the Gunners starting line up and looks like he has no chance of winning it back due to the superb form of Hector Belerin.
Wenger has refused to rule out the sale of Debuchy although the French tactician indicated he will be happy if the right back stays at the club beyond the winter transfer window.
West Brom and Lyon are reportedly keen on the defender also.
