Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Arsenal are preparing to make a shock move for in form Watford striker Troy Deeney. Arsene Wenger is believed to be an admirer of the powerful hitman, as per the Daily star.
The impressive strike partnership of Watford captain Deeney and Nigerian international Odion Ighalo which helped the Hornets Secure promotion from the championship last season has gone on to be more than a hand full for premier league defences this season.
The pair have grabbed a total of 20 league goals thus far this season, though a majority of them have been scored by Ighalo, it is Deeney’s work ethic, discipline and creativity to play just behind the Nigerian that makes the partnership a success.
The Gunners who are inneed of reinforcements to aid their title bid are a little bit light in the striker department.
Watford are expected to be reluctant to part with their mercurial captain, who signed a new five year deal last summer, in the middle of what has been an impressive season so far. The Gunners however believe an offer of around £20m could tempt Watford into a deal, as per the report.
Though Deeney, 27, wouldn’t be easily convinced about moving to North London , Wenger however believes that the possibility of being a premier league winner coupled with the lure of champions league football would be enough to spin the head of the powerful forward.
