Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Arsenal are in talks with Watford over the services of Troy Deeney, according to Talksport.
The Gunners were linked with a shock move to sign the Hornets striker and were reportedly ready to pay £20m for the striker’s services, as per the Daily Mail.
However, Talksport now claims, the Gunners have opened talks with Watford after approaching the newly promoted team few days back.
The report claims the Gunners have asked about the player’s price tag and the possibility of a winter transfer already.
The Gunners are reportedly in search of a centre forward in order to strengthen their squad depth for the Business end of the season and they see Deeney as a capable back up for Olivier Giroud.
Arsenal striker Daniel Welbeck is currently sidelined with an injury and he is not expected to return to training until mid February.
Deeney is having a brilliant season with Watford who are currently punching above their weight in the league table and his performances and hardwork has caught the eyes of Arsene Wenger.
The English born striker is reportedly valued at a fee of £20m pounds.
Arsenal could face competition for the striker’s signature from an unnamed premier league club should Watford be willing to sell the player.
Deeney has scored six goals in 11 appearances for the Hornets this season.
