Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Tottenham Hotspur have jumped ahead of North London Rivals Arsenal in the race for the signature of prolific Marseille striker Michy Batshuayi, according to the Metro.
The spurs are believed to be the new favourites for the forward.
French daily L’Equipe reports that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has contacted Marseille and has informed them about his interest in the powerful Belgian.
Though Spurs Academy graduate Harry Kane has rediscovered his fine form of last season and continues to deliver the goods at white Hart lane, he remains the only fit out and out striker in the squad thanks to the injury sustained by summer signing Clitton Njie.
Batshuayi, 22, who is currently enjoying a very prolific spell in front of goal having netted 14 goals in his last 25 appearances is seen by Spurs boss Pochettino as one who could beef up his squad and provide adequate depth in the striking department to keep them in the top four.
The striker is understood to be seeking a move to the premier league to showcase his talents much like his international colleagues of Congolese decent Christian Benteke and Romelu Lukaku.
