Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Arsenal have been told to wait till next summer before they’d have any chance of signing Southampton midfielder, Victor Wanyama, according to the Express.
The Gunners have been linked with a move to sign the Keyan international and Wenger even earmarked the powerful defensive midfielder as his priority target this winter transfer window, as per the Mirror. The Gunners were thought to be interested in the 24 year old as a replacement for Francis Coquelin who suffered a long term injury in November.
Southampton Boss Ronald Koeman has been adamant that none of his stars will leave the St Mary’s in the current winter transfer window and the Mirror now reports the Gunners have been told to wait until next summer before they can sign the 24 year old.
Wanyama has been in superb form for the saints this term and should he continue his performances, his value of £20m could rise by next summer.
The midfielder is a crucial part of Koeman’s side and has featured in 15 of the Saints league matches this season.
The Gunners have since moved for FC Basel defensive midfielder Mohamed Elneny and are on the verge of completing the transfer.
