Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Everyone expected Arsenal to be active during the ongoing winter transfer window after manager Arsene Wenger admitted he would be ‘busy’ due to injuries currently plaguing his team. The manager is reportedly eyeing moves for a forward and a midfielder.
Due to the difficulty involved in getting star players in the middle of the season, reports had emerged that Wenger was eyeing a backup forward option with Troy Deeney and Michy Batshuayi thought to be his targets, The Manager has however lodged a club record bid for Borrusia Dortmund forward Pierre – Emerick Aubameyang.
The speedy forward, recently crowned Africa’s Footballer of the year, has been in imperious form this season and currently tops the German Bundesliga goal charts with an impressive 17 goals in 18 league games. The striker is thought to be earmarked by Wenger as the next super star Arsenal signing, having personally led the recruits of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech in recent times.
The news of a bid was disclosed by journalist Kike Marin, who previously broke the news of Alexis Sanchez to Arsenal 18 months ago, writing on Twitter he said an offer of €60m (£44.6m) had been submitted by Arsenal on Thursday morning.
Aubameyang, 26, who has also been linked with rivals Liverpool, is eligible to play for the Gunners in the champions league should a deal happen.
