Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push this season and the boss is aware of the need to bring in only the best to achieve his target.
It is no longer news that Arsenal are in the market for a striker and are going all out to secure at least one in this transfer window. Strikers like Olympique Lyon’s Lacazette, Bayer Leverkusen’s Hernandez, Watford’s striking duo of Ighalo and Troy Deeney and Most recently; Pierre Emerick Aubameyang of Borussia Dortmund.
Now the new name that has emerged is former FC Porto hit man, Jackson Martinez who is currently with Atletico Madrid. Martinez has been in Arsene Wenger’s radar for a while before moving to the Vincente Calderon last summer.
The 29-year-old has struggled to adjust to life in Spain, scoring just 2 goals so far this season for Atletico Madrid since his move from Porto for £26.3 Million.
Reports from French source Le 10 Sport says that the Gunners are keeping close tabs on the unsettled Martinez of a possible move. Wenger wants to bring in a new striker to support Giroud upfront and to consolidate on the Gunners lead on top the Premier League log in their quest for a first Premier League title since 2004.
The Colombian international is equipped to thrive in the English Premier League as he possess the physique, strength and technical ability to match the requirement of a potent striker in the Premiership. The Gunners should be aware that they are not the only interested party looking to secure Martinez’s services as London rivals; Chelsea are said to be keenly interested too.
