Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push this season and the boss is aware of the need to bring in only the best to achieve his target.
West Ham United have opened talks with Arsenal over the signing of Mikel Arteta, according to the Metro.
West Ham are reportedly keen on strengthening their squad and see former Everton midfielder Arteta as a good addition to their squad.
The midfielder’s position at Arsenal is reportedly at risk due to the impending arrival of Mohamed Elneny and with reports also claiming the Gunners are on the brink of Adrien Rabiot, Arteta’s position at Arsenal is set to be in great danger.
Arteta’s contract at Arsenal is also set to expire at the end of the season and the Gunners are not prepared to offer their captain a new contract, as per the report.
West Ham are now set to take advantage of the situation and are prepared to offer him a pre contract to enable them sign him for free next summer. However the East London club are also interested in exploiting the possibility of signing the 33 year old this month and are keen to negotiate a deal with their North London counterpart.
Arteta joined Arsenal in 2011 and has made over 100 league appearances for the Gunners, scoring 14 league goals.
