Former Liverpool player, Xabi Alonso has hinted he would love to play alongside childhood friend Mikel Arteta; Alonso admitted that he maintains a close relation with Arsenal skipper Mikel Arteta, according to the Daily Star.
Alonso admitted that he was a Gunner fan while he was growing up at San Sebastian, where he met Arteta before they went their ways in 1997. Alonso went on to join Real Sociedadwhile Arteta went to Barcelona.
Alonso has gone on to play for some of the biggest sides in the world, representing Liverpool, Real Madrid and now Bayern Munich, all have been successful.
The Spaniard won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool and also the FA Cup; while at Real Madrid he won the La Liga and the Copa Del Rey for the Spanish giants; Now at Bayern Munich since making the switch from Real Madrid, He has won the German Bundesliga with the Bavarians.
Arteta has been less successful in his career, winning no title with Everton before switching to the Emirates where he has won back to back FA Cup titles. Both players are in their 30’s and Alonso stated that he still wish he could line alongside Arteta in North London, although Alonso recently signed an extension to his contract with Bayern Munich for a further year.
