Wenger himself confirmed he would sign only “top players” in winter, and this has seen the club linked to an avalanche of star players in recent weeks.
Arsenal are set to lose out on the move to secure the signature of Uruguayan international striker, Edinson Cavani, according to reports.
The Gunners were in pole position to sign Cavani from Paris St. Germain. But that move is now under serious threat due to the transfer embargo place of Real Madrid.
The Spanish giant has been banned by world football governing body from participating in the next two transfer window; this has prompt Real Madrid to move for their former striker; Alvaro Morata who has a buy back clause inserted to his sale to Juventus at £26 Million.
Real Madrid has first option on Morata and are ready to exercise their right in this January transfer window leading to Juventus to shift their focus on Edinson Cavani. The Old Lady of Italian football needs Cavani as a direct replacement for Morata.
Madrid, are trying to seal transfer deals as many as they can in this transfer window before the transfer embargo sets in in the summer. Morata’s exit from Juventus would see the Turin giants sourcing for Morata’s replacement.
Cavani joined the French Champions in 2013 from Italian side SS Napoli and has gone on to score 69 goals in 120 appearances for Paris St. Germain despite not operating as the main striker but from the flanks.
