Arsenal may well not be done in the transfer market as earlier thought after the capture of Mohamed Elneny from FC Basel in Switzerland after reports are emerging that the Gunners are preparing to swoop for two captains who play as Midfielders for German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen respectively. They are Granit Xhaka and Lars Bender.
The Gunners have been on the trail of both players for a while now and it now seems like the Gunners would finally sign Xhaka from Monchengladbach but not in this transfer window but in the summer, as according to THE TELEGRAPH.
Borussia Monchengladbach director, Max Eberl said “ I don’t know what would happen in the summer, there are always situations a club has to give consideration to. It depends on our sporting success, it depend on performance of Granit and it also depends on the numbers [the amount being offered by clubs], which can go into levels that make you dizzy.”
Meaning the only way Arsenal can sign Granit Xhaka from Borussia Monchengladbach this season is to meet his release clause or pay above it. As for Lars Bender, who has been a long term Gunners target; the TELEGRAPH stated that Leverkusen chairman hinted that the midfielder may be given the green light for a transfer to a bigger club. This means the Gunners can still complete a move for either of the two players in this January transfer window
