After Mertesacker’s Red Card, Arsenal Sanction Deal For Powerful Defender

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major title push this season and the boss is aware of the need to bring in only the best to achieve his target.

Arsenal are reportedly set to join the race for Real Madrid’s defender Nacho with a host of team lining up for the defender’s signature. The future of the 26 year old looks uncertain as he is yet to feature regularly for the Bernabue giants.

According to TheSUN, the long serving Castilla graduate may be set to leave his home grown club after struggling to force his way into the first-team on a consistent basis. The defender is very versatile as he can play in either the left or right back position or as a central defender.

TheSUN also reports that Italian outfit, AS Roma allegedly tabled an £8 Million bid last week  for the versatile defender in preparation for the departure of Ashley Cole in the summer while SS Napoli are also showing interest.

Chelsea need to beef up their defence as they have been shipping in goals with reckless abandon despite bringing in Baba Rahman in the summer; who has rarely featured for the Blues. The Gunners recently renewed Nacho Monreal’s contract with the club and they still have Kieran Gibbs as an option at left back but French man Mathieu Debuchy look set to join German side Bayer Leverkusen for the rest of the season on loan and may not be returning back to the Emirates should the German side decides to make his loan deal permanent.

Nacho is vey quick and would adapt seamlessly to the Gunners playing style. The major barrier that would likely kill off this deal is Real’s transfer embargo which if not over turned would stop the Bernabue giants from bringing in new players in the next two transfer windows.
