Arsene Wenger is reportedly a fan of the defender and he made his first professional league start against the Gunners in West Ham’s 2-0 win back in August.
Report suggest Arsenal are still interested in signing West Ham defender Reece Oxford and will return for the 17 year old in the summer transfer window.
According to the Daily Mirror, Oxford’s impressive performances since being promoted to the Hammer’s senior sqaud has alerted Wenger and the French man is prepared to part with as much as £8million to sign the defender.
It is claimed that scouts from Arsenal monitored the defender while he was at Tottenham prior to his move to West Ham in 2011.
The defender’s contract at West Ham doesn’t expire until the end of the 2017/2018 season but it is believed he could move in search of regular first team football after being left out of the Hammers’ starting xi since October.
Manchester United are reportedly watching the defender too but the Gunners hope to beat their rival to the signature of the 17 year old defender.
Wenger’s pedigree of giving young player’s first team place ahead of experienced international could convince Oxford to make the switch to the Emirates.
Oxford has made four league appearances for Slaven Bilic’s men since making his league debut in August 2015.
