Arsene Wenger believes his side has been doing remarkably well for over a decade despite not winning any league title.
The Gunners went almost 10 years without a piece of silverware before they won the FA cup title in 2014. The coach in particular has come under criticism from fans as the club is yet to win a league title since 2004 and Wenger believes his side has been consistent for over 10 years. The French man argued it is difficult to challenge for the title and pay for a new stadium but despite the burden of the stadium, the club never finished out of the top four.
“People are very demanding,” Wenger said. “When you look at our consistency we are the only club that for such a long time has been at the top. It looks always easy as long as it happens but maybe you will see one day that it’s not as easy as it looks.
“To keep that consistency going over the years is very difficult – it demands very hard work. It’s difficult for me to speak about other clubs but for me the consistency is the hardest thing to achieve. Once it is there, everyone considers it normal and takes it for granted.
“I can understand that but people forget that in 2006 we moved into the new stadium. We had half the resources of the other clubs, we had to sell our best players and stay at the top as well. After that everybody forgets, they just ask: ‘Why did you not win?’
“I am just a manager. I think when I have the players and the team I can deliver. We are the only ones who won the championship without losing a game – nobody else has done it. I had other good teams as well. We have been remarkably consistent and when we deliver we deliver.”
