Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has promised to help up coming Youngster Alex Iwobi.
The England midfielder who was promoted to the Gunners first team at the age of 16 has promised to support Nigeria international Iwobi should he be in any position to do so.
Iwobi was recently promoted to the Gunners first team but unlike Wilshere who spent time on loan at Bolton, Wenger has decided against sending Iwobi out on loan. Wilshere had previously claimed his time at Bolton made him strong for the challenge at Arsenal and the England midfielder has promised to help Iwobi who will have to find a way into the Gunners starting xi without going on loan.
“Coming into a dressing room with the likes of Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez can be scary for a young player,” he told the Arsenal Weekly Podcast.
“To be fair to Alex, he’s a good kid. He wants to learn. He’s got the right attitude in training and when he gets on the pitch he’s showing the fans what he can do.
“I don’t like to call it mentoring. Alex is 19, he’s not a kid. But I know what it’s like for him. I feel a responsibility to put him in the right direction, to answer his questions.”
“I think back to when I first came in, players like Cesc [Fabregas] and Samir Nasri were great with me. They put their arms round me and taught me how to act, offering me support when I didn’t play.
“If I can be like they were for Alex then I’ll do it.
“He’ll be sitting next to Danny Welbeck and Francis. Danny will look after him; he can make friends with anyone.”
Iwobi started the FA cup game against Hull City on Saturday and impressed in the 72 minutes he spent on the pitch.
