Arsene Wenger has given an update on Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain injury, via Eurosport.
The midfielder sustained a knee injury in Tuesday night’s game against Barcelona. Some reports claimed the midfielder could miss the majority of the rest of the season and his place in Roy Hodgson’s squad for the European championships have been placed into serious doubts.
Although Wenger has admitted that the injury is quite serious but he hopes the midfielder will only be out of action for only a few weeks.
“We lost Oxlade-Chamberlain on Tuesday night,” he said.
“His injury is quite serious and keeps him out for a few weeks. He is consulting a specialist at the moment because he is injured at his knee. Hopefully we will have good news.
“He is out for a few weeks. How long exactly? I don’t know but a few weeks. He is (devastated). Let’s hope that we get good news that it’s only two or three weeks, not six or seven.”
The Gunners boss also talked up the danger of Chamberlain missing the Euro 2016 Championships and he his hopeful the 22 year old will return in time for the tournament.
“I don’t think so.
“It’s not a recurrence of a previous injury. Not at all. It’s a new injury. He has been cut in two by Mascherano and he did his knee. We have to see how big the damage is in his knee. Hopefully we will have good news later.
“I don’t think it was a malicious tackle. It was a fully committed tackle but it didn’t look malicious.
