Arsene Wenger has given an update on why he substituted Mathieu Flamini minutes before half-time against Barcelona last night.
Wenger claimed that it was purely a physical issue and he now joins Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky and Aaron Ramsey among the injured central midfielders.
This means Arsenal will only have new signing Mohamed Elneny and Francis Coquelin available in midfield against Everton on Saturday.
“I didn’t know where he was,” said Wenger, as quoted by the Telegraph, when asked about Flamini’s situation. “I’m not sure he was allowed on the bench. He was injured. He had treatment after half-time. On a night of great football I wouldn’t say that was the most important thing about the game.”
