Manchester United have edged out Arsenal in the race to sign Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports.
Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the striker since he was at Real Madrid and despite losing out on his signature to Napoli, Wenger is still interested in signing the Argentine striker.
It is believed that Wenger was prepared to submit a mouth watering bid for the striker this summer.
But according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulanelli, United have offered to table a bid of £85m for the striker’s signature and the Old Trafford team has an agreement in principle already in place.
It is believed that the deal was facilitated by Jose Mourinho who is heavily touted to take over from Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford this summer.
It is believed that Higuain’s agent met with Jose Mourinho to discuss terms and Manchester United have offered Higuain a contract worth £8m a season for five years.
It was never going to be an easy task for us to sign the striker but we would now have to stump up huge fee for us to have any chance to sign the striker.
It is believed that Higuain is now interested in a move away from Napoli due to his strained relationship with Napoli’s Hierarchy.
Liverpool and Chelsea are also interested in the striker but Manchester United seem to have moved ahead of their rivals in the race to sign the striker.
Higuain has 29 goals in all competitions for Napoli this season.
