Arsenal youngster Alex Iwobi is eager to repay Arsene Wenger’s faith in him after the French man played a pivotal role in his progress into the first team.
The 19-year-old has been with the Gunners first team since the beginning of the season but his biggest night came on Wednesday when he was trusted with a starting spot against Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Wednesday.
The midfielder didn’t disappoint as he was one of the Gunners best players on Wednesday night and he is willing to work hard after he was given the opportunity to play with the likes of Messi and Luis Suarez.
“It was crazy,” he said, as quoted by London 24.
“To play against one of the best teams in the world in one of the best stadiums in the world is a young man’s dream. I was pleased because, especially at 19, I never thought I would be here playing with the likes of Messi, Neymar and Suarez. I am just happy to be here.
“I didn’t know how to feel when I was told I was playing. I was buzzing. I just wanted to go out and show to the world how I could play in a match against the best in the world.
“I am pleased with my performance – I just wish that the team had won.
“I never thought I would get this far. I honestly thought I was going to go on loan at the start of the season but the manager has tried to show some faith in me and I am trying to prove him right by playing well every time I play.”
The winger is yet to score a goal for the first team but his performances have been encouraging and will likely be an important member of the first-team next season.
