Arsenal have joined the race to sign Manchester United target and former Chelsea man Jose Mourinho, according to reports.
With Arsene Wenger’s future reportedly in doubt, the Gunners have been linked with a host of top managers in Europe which includes, Ronald Koeman, Diego Simeone and Manuel Pelligrini. But a new name has been thrown into the hat and that is Jose Mourinho.
The former Chelsea boss is widely expected to take over from Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United with some reports even claiming the Portuguese signed a pre-contract agreement with Manchester United in February.
However, Spanish Publication Fichajes claims Manchester United still have doubts about appointing Mourinho and Arsenal are set to take advantage of the situation and move for the Portuguese international.
The report claims Arsenal are fed up with Wenger as the club trails by 11 points in the title race and are set to rival Man Utd for Mourinho’s services, via Goal football.
Wenger has gone 11 years without a Premier League title at Arsenal while in that period, Mourinho has won three league titles with Chelsea. Mourinho also has a superb personal record over Wenger as the French man is yet to defeat the Portuguese in a league game, however, the appointment of Mourinho could be detrimental to our academy players making it into the first team as the Portuguese is not really known for bringing academy players into the first team.
