An Arsenal insider has denied claims that the club is looking to replace Arsene Wenger with former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho who was sacked by Chelsea in November is widely expected to take over the Job at Old Trafford but reports surfaced yesterday that the Gunners have moved to sign the Portugues tactician ahead of Manchester United.
But according to the Sun via the Daily Star, an Arsenal source has described the reports as “absolute nonsense”.
The Portuguese who is known for an Ultra defensive style of play may not fit into the Gunners philosophy as Wenger has built the squad over years to play expansive football.
It is believed that Mourinho whose family is settled in London would be interested in remaining in England and should a London club like Arsenal come for his services, staying close to his family could just influence his decision.
It remains to be seen if Wenger would be sacked at the end of the season but Mourinho is hopeful to begin work with his new club in the summer.
He said in February : “I always feel that it’s better to wait, not to rush, better to be calm, to wait for the right moment, the right move.
“I feel that starting the next season with a new club and project is probably the best thing for me.
“It’s quite a funny career. I am the English champion, and I still have no job.”
Mourinho has won the Premier League title on three occasions since he first moved to Chelsea in 2004.
