Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin has thrown his support behind boss Arsene Wenger, according to the Daily Express.
Arsenal currently sits third on the Premier League table, 11 points behind league leaders Leicester City in the first place and with barely seven games to go, some of the fans have grown impatient with the manager. The French man has come under severe criticism for his side’s inconsistent performance this year with some sections of the club’s fans asking him to quit his job.
But Belerin insists Wenger should be respected and believes the 66-year-old is the best man for the Gunner’s job.
“Wenger doesn’t deserve the criticism,” Bellerin told Goal.
“Few managers have done what he has done, to be at a club for so long, to keep them at a high level, always competing for European places, winning titles.
“It’s true that maybe in recent years the club hasn’t been quite what it was, but that doesn’t take away, for example, the number of players he’s developed – me included.
“He found me in Barcelona and has allowed me to play in the Premier League.
“He has given me the opportunities that I have. Few managers have done that. Wenger deserves the utmost respect for what he’s done at Arsenal.”
Wenger still retains the full support of the board, but a recent backlash from fans is reportedly a cause of concern for the board but Wenger has made it known that he will like to see out the remainder of his contract.
