Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily, Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Prior to the arrival of marquee signings Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Petr Cech, it is no secret that Gunners’ fans had and still retains their wish of signing a superstar striker that would take the current Arsenal side to the next level, from Premier League top four contenders to genuine title challengers, from Champions League participants to Champions League contenders.

It’s a wish that has however brought only disappointment to the Gunners faithful with rumoured moves for Gonzalo Higuain, Luis Suárez, Karim Benzema and Pierre-Emerick-Aubameyang in recent times all being futile.

The Gunners are set to be spared their annual disappointed of missing out on a hitman with Wenger’s decision to abandon the search altogether and instead keep faith in Danny Welbeck for the upcoming season.

According to The Daily Mirror via The Metro, Wenger may be tempted to keep faith with Welbeck as his first-choice striker after a strong showing since his return from injury.

Although the England international has had an immediate impact on his return to fitness, scoring four goals in just nine games, a decision against moving for a proven 30 goals a season forward wouldn’t go down well with the Gunners faithful especially when you consider the versatile English man has scored a total of just 36 goals in his last four seasons having played 161 times.

In a summer where Zlatan Ibrahimovic is certain to be available, it is believed that it is the Frenchman’s frugal approach that is the driving force behind the decision to stick with Welbeck.
